ICEBlock and similar apps that allow users to anonymously share the locations of immigration agents are still removed from the Apple app store. Although the app can no longer be downloaded, the app itself still works for users who already have it installed.
On Oct. 2, Apple removed ICEBlock and similar apps following pressure from the Trump Administration. Google soon followed suit. According to the Associated Press, Apple said it removed ICEBlock because the app violated company policy “because its purpose is to provide location information about law enforcement officers that can be used to harm such officers individually or as a group.” According to a statement on the ICEBlock website, the app intends to fight the ban. “Capitulating to an authoritarian regime is never the right move,” ICEBlock stated. “This is protected speech under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.”
